Terms of Use

Last reviewed: June 2026

DRAFT. This document describes how Sanctuary actually operates today. It has not yet been reviewed by qualified legal counsel and is not a substitute for legal advice. Review with counsel before relying on it at public scale.

By using Sanctuary you agree to these terms. They describe what you can expect from us and what we expect from you.

What Sanctuary is

Sanctuary is a quiet online space for reflection, prayer, voice letters, journaling, and supportive community. It is not a substitute for therapy, medical care, legal advice, or emergency response — see the Care Disclaimer and Crisis Resources.

Your account

  • You must be 16 or older to create an account.
  • One person, one account. Do not share login credentials.
  • Keep your email and password secure. We will never ask for your password.

What you may post

You may share your own honest reflections, prayers, voice letters, journal entries, and supportive responses to others. You retain ownership of everything you create.

What you may not post

  • Content that targets, harasses, or threatens another person.
  • Sexual content involving minors, non-consensual sexual content, or content that promotes self-harm or suicide.
  • Content that promotes violence, hate, or illegal activity.
  • Spam, advertising, scams, or impersonation of another person.
  • Personal contact information about anyone — including yourself — where doing so puts you or them at risk.

Violations result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent ban depending on severity. See the Community Guidelines for the full picture and the Safety & Trust page for how reports are handled.

The license you grant us

When you share content publicly within Sanctuary (a prayer, an anonymously shared voice letter, a library contribution), you grant Sanctuary a limited, non-exclusive license to store, transmit, and display that content so the platform can function. We do not claim ownership and we will not use your content for advertising or to train models. Private content is never shared.

Payments

Some features (VIP access, optional creator support) are paid. Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers. Billing questions go to the email on your account.

What we may do to keep Sanctuary safe

  • Remove content that violates these terms or our guidelines.
  • Suspend or ban accounts that put other members at risk. Repeat or severe violations are not warned twice.
  • Cooperate with law enforcement when legally required, particularly for credible threats of harm.

What you can do

  • Edit or delete anything you have shared.
  • Delete your entire account (see the Privacy Policy).
  • Report content that violates the guidelines using the report control on each piece of content.

Service availability

Sanctuary is provided "as is." We do our best to keep it running and to back it up, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability or that every recording will survive every infrastructure incident. Keep your own copy of anything irreplaceable.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sanctuary and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising out of your use of the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes

If we change these terms we will surface the change in the app before it takes effect. Continued use after that constitutes acceptance.
